/PRCWT/Guangzhou, November 30, 2023 - On November 23, 2023, the 5th Seminar on Reading Promotion for College Students, sponsored by the Reading Promotion Committee of China Library Society and hosted by the Library of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and the Library of Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, with the technical support of Yuetu Culture Group, was held in the Library of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies Representing more than 200 people attended the meeting.
With the theme of "Promoting Innovative Development of Reading enabled by digital Technology", this conference will jointly explore the practice, innovation and development of reading promotion for college students. The opening ceremony opened in the light and melodious melody of the "Water Country Song", in the powerful recitation of the "Will enter the wine".
The opening ceremony of the seminar was presided over by Mr. Zhang Jianwu, Library Director of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Mr. Jiao Fangtai, Vice President of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and Mr. Cheng Huanwen, Vice Chairman of China Library Society, Professor and doctoral supervisor of School of Information Management of Sun Yat-sen University delivered speeches.
Vice President Jiao Fangtai extended a warm welcome to the guests and representatives attending the 5th Seminar on Promoting Reading for University Students. Professor Cheng Huanwen mentioned in his opening speech: adhere to the original intention of serving readers, the confidence of inheriting culture and the determination to forge ahead, and actively implement the Library Service Declaration.
In the keynote report session, Professor Cheng Huanwen first analyzed the problems in college students' reading life with the title of "Reading is the Best Practice - Some Basic Problems on College Students' reading", and provided clear guidance for the promotion of college students' reading through a new perspective. Then, Li Donglai, director of the Reading Promotion Committee of the Chinese Library Society, shared his forward-looking thinking and innovative strategies for the industry with the title "Mission and Focus of Library Reading Promotion" combined with his own experience. The keynote report session was presided over by Huang Peng, director of the Professional Group of College Students' Reading Promotion of the Reading Promotion Committee of Chinese Library Society and deputy director of Wuhan University Library.
Next, Zhang Jianwu, director of the library of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Wang Zhongzheng, director of the library of Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, Ming Xiangli, member of the professional group of College Students' Reading Promotion Committee of China Library Society and general manager of Yuetu Culture Group Co., Ltd. respectively conducted a special report session, which was more focused on practical exploration, and was conducted by the Reading Promotion Committee of China Library Society Zhang Qiu, deputy director of the Professional Group of College Students' Reading Promotion and deputy director of Tsinghua University Library, presided over.
Chen Liang, director of the professional group and director of the library of Nanjing University of the Arts, and Yue Xiuzhi, director of the library of Zhongyuan Institute of Technology, shared their views respectively, and discussed how to better guide college students to truly "love reading, read good books and be good at reading" and comprehensively improve their reading literacy. This session was chaired by Curator Wang Zhongzheng, Deputy Director of the Professional Group of College Students' Reading Promotion of the Reading Promotion Committee of China Library Society, and Secretary of the Party Committee of Southwest Jiaotong University School of Public Administration Gao Fan.
Subsequently, Zhang Li, deputy director of the library of Nankai University, Sha Bin, director of the library of Shandong University of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering, Shen Yan, librarian of the Consultation and Publicity Department of Wuhan University Library, and Chun Jiao, deputy research librarian of Sichuan University Library, shared their cases. Liu Hong, Director of the Academic Research Department of Zhongshan Library in Guangdong Province and deputy editor of Library Forum, and Jin Xiaoming, former deputy editor of Library Journal, made case comments. These cases not only reflect the deepening of traditional reading promotion, but also show the effective application of various new technologies and new thinking in reading promotion work, showing the infinite possibilities of reading promotion work. The two sessions were hosted by Fang Yaming, library director of Guangdong University of Technology, and Du Xiaojun, deputy library director of Sichuan University.
Deputy Curator Huang Peng made a concluding speech. This seminar not only provided a platform for in-depth communication between the participants, but also injected new vitality into the vigorous development of college students' reading culture.
